The British Museum Tour: Crash Course is a three-hour, in-depth exploration of one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive collections of artifacts. Led by a licensed archaeologist or historian, this tour offers insights and perspectives on the museum’s many treasures from antiquity, including the Rosetta Stone, the Parthenon Marbles, and the Assyrian Lion Hunt. Participants will gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the museum’s collections, and learn about the museum’s controversial history of collecting.
The tour begins with a thorough overview of how the British Museum came into existence in the mid-eighteenth century, and then traverses the halls of the museum, visiting its most important rooms. Depending on the interests of the group, the tour may focus on the art of ancient Iran and/or Iraq, or delve into the Parthenon Marbles.
At the end of the tour, participants will emerge with a better understanding of this major institution and its key role in intellectual life worldwide. Admission to the museum is free, and the tour is suitable for families with children 12 and under. Unfortunately, due to venue reservation restrictions, groups larger than 7 people cannot be accommodated.
