Tucked besides the Thames in a former banana warehouse, lies the Design Museum, home of all manner of design that is both beautiful and functional. If you’re in London in the rain (or even in the winter sun) it’s a lovely place hole up for the day, with plenty to sustain you at the tasty restaurant, as well as being the only museum where the exhibits on display are also for sale. Check out the offerings for some unusual souvenirs and gifts for your relatives back home here.
The Museum hosts different exhibitions throughout the year, as well as holding the annual Designs of the Year exhibition. This year the show will run from March 25 to August 23, 2015. Displaying designs from across the world that have been produced over the previous twelve months, there is also an award for the best design judged across seven different categories. Past winners have included the Obama HOPE poster by Shepherd Fairey and the London 2012 Olympic Torch.
Design lovers: This is your last year to visit the Design Museum at this address before it moves to a new location in the former Commonwealth Institute building in Kensington in 2016. Stay tuned to the London Perfect Blog for updates on the big move!
Buy tickets online in advance or if you’re visiting London several times this year an annual membership can be bought from £55 and offers a 50% discount on museum talks as well as unlimited entry to the exhibits. Find out more here.
