London is one of the most festive city’s in the world during the holidays, but there are some stores that we simply must visit before it really feels like the Christmas season. One of the best holiday shopping spots in London, the beautiful department store Liberty of London is a classic that you won’t want to miss. Situated just off Regent Street in an unmissable mock Tudor building dating from 1924, Liberty is perhaps the only department store in the world that can say it was constructed from old sailing ships. The timbers of the building are in fact from two ships, the HMS Impregnable and HMS Hindustan. You have to admit that sailing ships never made a lovelier building, right?
Step inside and you’ll find that the building is just one of the many aspects that makes Liberty a unique shopping experience. Liberty is an absolute treasure box! It’s where you’ll find designer fashions like Vivienne Westwood and then climb up the creaky wooden staircase a level or two (there’s an elevator, but the steps are so characteristic!) to find sewing notions and bolts of fabric. And we’re pretty sure there’s everything in between, including a gorgeous beauty, skincare and perfume section on the ground level.
For the holidays, Liberty transforms a section of the store into a grand Christmas extravaganza with thousands upon thousands of decorations, from grand and elegant to shiny and oh so London. We popped in Liberty recently and couldn’t resist taking some photos of the Christmas decorations on display this year. Take a look and see what might be the perfect addition to your Christmas tree!
While shopping in London this year do be sure to stop in Liberty of London to find a few treasures to remember a beautiful Christmas visit to London each year when you decorate your home for the holidays!
