Set in a beautiful Victorian iron and glass building that was once home to the Covent Garden market, the London Transport Museum is not only one of our favourite museums in London but also a great shopping spot. If you haven’t been, do plan on some time exploring the museum’s vibrant, fascinating and fun exhibitions dedicated to London’s transport heritage.
The entrance to the London Transport Museum is at the southeast corner of Covent Garden’s Piazza. Just through the glass doors you’ll find the large gift shop, which is located on two levels. This is where you’ll find the best selection of fun “Mind the Gap,” London Underground and other classic London memorabilia. There’s also a very large selection of books dedicated to London’s transport history along with general London travel books, too. Upstairs you’ll find posters, art reproductions and more in-depth history books and items.
After you’re shopped out from Covent Garden and the London Transport Museum gift shop, just head up to the Upper Deck, a little café on the upper level of the gift shop. It’s a great spot for meeting friends, enjoying a coffee break or light meal in Covent Garden. I love having tea at the bar overlooking the shop below and bustling Covent Garden just outside the big glass doors.
