Calling all London Perfect Readers!
As you’re all aware London is internationally renowned for arts and antiques of the highest calibre. It’s a bit of a mecca for galleries, auction houses and discerning buyers. And as for the superlative quality and cutting edge of its interior design and décor, well, almost nowhere can compare. Even if we do say so ourselves.
Now, do you fancy having a taste of that for yourself? You do? Good. Because 28 – 31 August 2013 there is a fest of British artistic heritage at the Antiques and Fine Art Fair at the Mall Galleries. And we’ve a couple of tickets to give away. Huzzah!
The Fair will be located at the Mall Galleries at the Admiralty Arch end of The Mall, which is a stroll away from some rather impressive bits of London architecture: Buckingham Palace (for the Royal watchers amongst our readers), Trafalgar Square (for fans of Admiral Horatio Nelson or giant blue roosters) and the Palace of Westminster (for those who go weak in the knees for a bit of the Gothic revivalism courtesy Charles Barry and A.W.N. Pugin).
So why not combine this delightful amble through London’s historic landmarks with a cornucopia of the finest paintings—from the 17th century to today—jewellery, small furniture, sculpture, silver, glass … gosh. The list goes on.
If you fancy those tickets, pop a comment at the bottom of this post. You’ve got until Midnight EST on Friday August 9, 2013 to write something. Something nice. Ideally about antiques, art or London. Then we at London Perfect will deploy the most sophisticated system EVER to pick a winner at random. It will involve lots of bits of paper with your comments on it, a hat and then a totally neutral picker of the winner.
We’ll announce the winner on Monday August 12.
Sounds like a good bit of fun to me – British art, antiques and the thrill of a small ticket giveaway. Woo hoo! So get typing. I await your comments with bated breath.
NOTE: The ticket giveaway is now over and the winner has been announced here. A big thank you to all those who entered the giveaway and told us their top tips for great things to do in London!

What about the I.C.A (located at Carlton House Terrace on the Mall, in between Admiralty Arch and the Palace)?!? That would surely be the perfect (albeit, probably the pointy) end of one’s “cornucopia” of art and architecture … although, given the current predilections of contemporary artists, you’re just as likely to NOT encounter “paintings, jewellery, small furniture, sculpture, silver, or glass”. You may, however, come across a man sitting in the corner distributing bread rolls… or a German industrial group attempting to drill through the floor… still, nothing like a little contemporary ‘panem et circenses’ to round off one’s day!
The Mall Galleries is a great place to start a day out in London. I’d follow the antiques fair with a visit to the blue cockerel on the fourth plinth at Trafalgar Square then the BP Portrait exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. Lunch in the gallery restaurant with its rooftop views then a show at Trafalgar Studio or The Coliseum.
I LOVE LONDON, a city with so much more to offer than the Queenie and palace
What a fantastic day out! Thank you for letting us know about it, it looks great! There is also a fantastic French cafe and wine bar around the corner in Shepherd’s market.
Maybe not the best venue for a ‘Bargain Hunt’ style challenge, then?
What a beautiful watch! Delightful!
Not the best place for a “Bargain Hunt”-style challenge, then?
This looks like fun – and from previous experience, probably as much for the people-watching as the art. Art fairs attract the very best kind of eccentric.
I think it’s straight from here to tea at the Ritz! Or with a slightly longer stroll, a cocktail at the Savoy, to keep that beautiful antique vibe going!
And nothing beats the view from the top of nag for feeling like you’ve come home
Sounds like that would make a great day out at the end of the Summer holidays. Am planning my packed lunch in anticipation…
Looks Amazing – I definitely won’t miss it.
My favourite place to see really really antique things is the V&A. I love the way seemingly not-so-thrilling things like furniture & clothing can be a fascinating insight into how people lived. Like a silver teaset I saw once that had a round, lidded dish with small vents in it which turned out to be a fancy dish for serving English muffins, a foodstuff that had just become popular amongst the upper classes when the teaset was made. That’s why I like antiques & old things in general.
A fine opportunity to experience some serious London culture, I always head to Tate Modern or the National Gallery so this could broaden my horizons… Fingers crossed!
I LOVE Paris Perfect apartments having had the pleasure of staying in several of them on many occasions with my family when my daughter was studying abroad in Paris and Aix-en-Provence. Now my daughter will be going to grad school in London, starting in September, which is such a great opportunity to experience another world class city with all the cultural offerings. We LOVE London and I’m sure we’ll love the experience of staying in the London Perfect apartments when we visit her! We cannot imagine staying anywhere else:)
Sounds lovely! This is why London is great – history is everywhere, and now there’s a chance to take some of it home. Fab!
