Today we’re celebrating and remembering the great author P.G. Wodehouse, who was born on this day in 1881. Wodehouse’s creative talents were broad and his humor infectious, and he penned many novels, short stories, poems, plays and worked as a lyricist with some of the biggest names in music, including Cole Porter, Jerome Kern and the Gershwins. Although he wrote many books, Wodehouse is perhaps remembered most for two of his characters – the charming and daft Bertie Wooster and his always capable butler Jeeves. Created in 1915, Jeeves and Wooster appear in 35 short stores and 11 novels by Wodehouse, and are two of his most-loved characters.
If they’re favourites of yours as well, you won’t want miss the chance to walk down Half Moon Street where Bertie Wooster’s flat was set in Wodehouse’s books and stories. Located between Piccadilly and Curzon Street in London’s trendy Mayfair neighbourhood, Half Moon Street is just as stylish an address now as it was for young Bertie Wooster. Home to some of the finest London shopping streets and elegant arcades, trendy boutiques and popular pubs at Shepherd’s Market and perfectly located between Hyde Park and Green Park, it’s easy to see why Mayfair is one of London’s most exclusive neighbourhoods.
If you would like to enjoy the charms of Mayfair, consider a stay in our stunning one bedroom Mayfair vacation rental. With an ideal location right at Shepherd Market, the Mayfair features a charming contemporary décor that we think Bertie Wooster would have found quite fetching! Beautifully remodelled, this apartment has an open plan living room, kitchen and dining area where you can relax in style and comfort when you return home after a day of sightseeing in London.
We love the playful contemporary design in the living room, which is perfectly complemented with beautiful furniture and artistic touches. The large Italian sofa in the living room converts to two single beds, which means the Mayfair welcomes up to four guests. The master bedroom with a queen size bed is a comfortable and welcoming room that you’ll look forward to retiring to at the end of the day.
Even with a great selection of traditional English pubs and charming restaurants nearby, you’ll be tempted to dine at home when you stay at the Mayfair. The kitchen has been beautifully remodelled and features everything (well, Jeeves isn’t included!) needed to prepare and serve an elegant meal at home.
Don’t forget to prepare a cocktail and make a toast to P.G. Wodehouse during your stay! If you’d like to find out more about London Perfect’s Mayfair vacation rental, please click here to view the apartments slide show, location and see all the details.
