This is our first apartment rental and we have found this one a wonderful way to experience living like a Londoner. It's located in a nice and safe residential neighborhood. Many sights and museums are close by so we didn't even use the tube the first two days of our stay!

My stay was truly perfect at the Queen's Gate apartment. The design was superb! I travel frequently and so many details were not missed: premium soaps, the espresso machine, and the abundant welcome package. The bed and linens were so comfortable I had a tough time getting up everyday! Highly recommended... thank you, thank you!

Queensgate was perfect for our family of three even though two of the three of us are over 6 feet tall! We gave the loft to our college son and slept wonderfully on the most comfortable twin to king sized sofa bed that we have ever slept on. We immediately tried to buy one for our guest room after returning home!

A charming Victorian studio apartment rental in the heart of London

Our London Vacation Apartment Rental: the Queensgate

Our new “Queensgate” London apartment rental in South Kensington is a compact loft studio apartment that can comfortably accommodate up to three people. Located on the raised ground floor of a white Victorian building, this pretty studio apartment rental has been completely renovated and equipped with all new appliances and fixtures. Guests tell us that he result is utterly charming. The Queen’s Gate London apartment rental features a comfortable sofa that converts to two twin beds plus a queen-sized bed on an ingeniously constructed mezzanine that takes full advantage of the property's very high ceilings. Although quite compact, the 13-foot-high ceilings and large windows provide loads of light and give the apartment a sense of space beyond its floor plan.

The Queen’s Gate apartment is located on a tree-lined street, Queensgate, that leads from Old Brompton Road to Kensington Gardens and Kensington Palace just beyond. The neighborhood offers many shops, cafés and restaurants, and it is a few minutes’ walk to both the Kensington tube and the Gloucester Road tube, direct routes on The Piccadilly Line is direct to Heathrow and five stops to the theatre district. It sits across from Imperial College and Museum Row, allowing for a pleasant stroll through the college’s campus to visit the Science Museum and the Natural History Museum (one of our favorite Victorian ‘grand buildings’). Kensington Gardens is three blocks away, one of the largest City parks in the world -- and some of the most prestigious arts colleges in the world are within walking distance. Visit The Royal College of Music, where budding opera singers and musicians apply to attend from around the world (stop by and check the programs for ongoing operas and recitals given at reasonable prices by the students year round), as well as the Royal Albert Hall, famous for its multitude of concerts of all varieties – from classical Opera to pop. The Royal College of Art, The Royal Geographical Society (where Victorian explorers such as Livingston hung out in the Victorian era), and many more interesting sights are just beyond your door, making The Queensgate an ideal home for experiencing everything London has to offer.

Our Queensgate London Apartment Rental Description:

Walk up the york stone steps of this grand Victorian building; it was once a single, large home but has since been converted into many apartments. The apartment is located to the right and down a short corridor from the Central Lobby, making the internal hall and entryway very quiet.

Enter the apartment to find a bathroom a few steps to your left and the kitchen directly ahead. One of the first things you notice is the beautifully refinished oak wood floor that is complimented with the blond-oak kitchen cabinets and the white-painted walls. This theme is carried throughout the apartment to enhance its space and give it an airy feel. The bathroom to your left is no exception. Similar cabinetry supports a modern porcelain sink below a wall-to-wall mirror that reflects the circular glass-enclosed and tile-lined shower as well as the many chrome fixtures.

Proceed into the kitchen and the details continue to please. It has been totally remodeled and decorated with recessed lighting and pretty green glass mosaic tiles behind the cabinets. Although fairly small, it offers plenty of countertop space and every modern appliance you would need. Besides the convection oven, stove, and refrigerator, you’ll find a washer, toaster, microwave, drip coffeemaker, Nespresso coffee maker, pots and pans, and top-of-the-line dishes and utensils—everything you’ll need to prepare gourmet. The apartment angles to the right as you exit the kitchen, and immediately on your right you find a small dining nook. It has a granite table and leather dining chairs with two extra folding chairs in a cupboard if more seating is needed.

The small living room has a comfortable armchair which faces a long modern sofa that we had made for us in Italy. The sofa converts to two separate twin beds at night and is excellent for lounging or napping on during the day. The excellent sofa design is all Italian. A single trundle bed slides out from underneath at night and the sofa seat pulls out to make a second, regular width single bed. It’s so much easier than most sofa beds as you don’t have to remove lots of cushions to go to sleep at night. The carefully engineered living room has a flat screen TV set which swings out to face the sofa so you can enjoy watching TV or a movie when you’re relaxing on the sofa or armchair at home. There is also a dual standard DVD player and you can watch a TV from a small selection that we provide or bring your own favorites. There is also a CD player with radio and a small selection of cd music.

Enhancing the room’s size are an enormous theatre set painting on the left wall and the 12-foot-long hanging silk curtains in taupe framing the large, stacked windows. The immense size and height of the ceiling allowed for the construction of a mezzanine for additional sleeping quarters. And in order to conserve space, we built a new kind of staircase that is increasingly used in Europe with great success, using alternate risers rather than a steep stairs. It’s a brilliant space saving idea – one of those ‘why didn’t someone think of this before’ and easier to climb than a spiral staircase. Head upstairs to a comfortable double bed at night, or simply slide out the trundle and remove sofa cover to find two excellent single beds in the living room.

Queensgate is a normal, busy London avenue during the day and we have double glazed the large windows to offer good sound insulation. The apartment also comes with two fans, upstairs and down for good ventilation.

The mezzanine has a new high quality queen-sized bed and a comfortable pillow top mattress so you can sink into it and sleep soundly at night. There are reading lights above the headboard and cupboards for storage, and there are additional cupboards under the stairs, in the entryway, and in the eating nook, so there is plenty of storage space. Further enhancing this attractive room are original oil paintings on the ceiling which have been restored and are historically listed. And, to top it off, we’ve installed a beautiful French chandelier.

You’ll also find free high-speed Internet access – both an ethernet cable and wireless -- so you can catch up on your emails.

We are sorry, but we do not allow smoking in any of our apartments.
